contestant checklist

preparing for the journey

You will need:

1- A computer and a second device (e.g. phone) capable of video calls (without lagging)
2- Reliable internet
3- Jenga blocks*
4- Multiple pieces of paper, pens, bold marker (visible when holding up a page to the camera)
5- A profile picture & video clip sent to production asap!
6- To prepare your email / inbox accordingly
7- To submit your $40 payment (CAD)
8- Join the Discord (link to be sent soon!)
9- To test your devices and video/audio quality (please actually do this with someone)
10- Optional extras: Fun outfits & props!

*Survivor at Home always includes a challenge where we stack Jenga blocks end on end, 10 blocks high (you should practice this). For this challenge, you will need to maneuver your computer and webcam so that everything is visible. You may want to have a coffee-stand/side-table available.

You must have a full set of classic Jenga blocks in good condition (not a knock-off version).

more details

Device Setup

You need a reliable computer to play, as well as a second device (another computer, your phone, or a tablet).

The computer is used primarily for Zoom, searching the website for advantages, emails, and voting. You may also choose to use Discord on your computer, for the times of socializing before a vote.

Please download Zoom and Discord on BOTH devices, before the event.

Pro Tip: Make sure your internet is reliable in the place you are going to play

Pro Tip #2: If you are using any wireless devices (e.g. headphones), take into consideration that the battery may not last.

Pro Tip #3: Poor audio and video quality (or lagging devices) will negatively affect your game and experience!

Profile Picture

Please email a picture of yourself asap for the cast page on the website. It needs to be a portrait format (up and down).

Short Video Clip

We need a short video clip of each contestant for the season intro video (different than the application video).

The video must be in landscape format (not up and down), and should be no more than 10 seconds.

Important: The sound will be muted and a song will be playing, so it’s just the footage we are looking for.

Please email this to: survivorathome@gmail.com

Here’s an example from a previous season:

Email Setup

During the weekend you will need to use your email often (e.g. we may send a clue to an advantage there). Make sure to add survivorathome@gmail.com as a contact so it doesn’t go to junk-mail, and prepare your inbox accordingly so that you don’t miss any of our emails.

If you plan on using a different email during the event than the one you used on your application form, let us know ASAP.

Pro Tip: Some players like to move everything in their inbox to a separate folder (e.g. “After the Event”) so that their inbox is free of clutter for the event. Others are maniacs and have hundreds of unread emails. But we won’t judge…

Payment

The cost is $40/person CAD, plus any additional supply costs you may need (e.g. the Jenga blocks, paper and writing utensils, etc…).

Please send an e-transfer to: survivorathome@gmail.com or Paypal: @ironsideandrew

Some Final Notes on Preparation (New)

This is optional, but you may want to jot down a few thoughts about your strategy, your read on the other contestants (based on the cast list page - coming soon), and key reminders from this guide.

Also, as contestants you have access to go back and review the highlights from previous seasons of Survivor at Home. You can find these under the seasons tab on the website, and you’ll need the password maketimeforfriends

Please don’t share this password with others.

Spread the Word

This has no bearing on the game (honestly), but it would be great if you want to share about your participation in Survivor at Home!
